Long Term Care Insurance
Unlike traditional health insurance, Long Term Care insurance policies reimburse policyholders a daily amount (up to a pre-selected limit) for services to assist them with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, or eating.

Many Long Term Care insurance policies have limits on how long or how much they will pay. Some policies will pay the costs of your long-term care for two to five years, while other insurance companies offer policies that will pay your long-term care costs for as long as you live.

You should know that...
Medicare only pays for long-term care if you require skilled services or rehabilitative care for a limited time. Medicare does not pay for non-skilled assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), which make up the majority of long-term care services. Read the section on Medicare for more information.

Costs and how to pay.
By taking an inventory of your resources, you can determine how you will pay for services and who you can count on to assist. Options exist for pre-funding the care you need such as insurance or savings.

Long-term-care is more expensive than you may think and you will likely be responsible for paying for the care you will require. Start thinking about how you will pay for the care you may need.
